“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” – Colin Powell

If someone came to you offering you an internship in their business for a year with no pay, would you take it? Probably not.

What if Bill Gates was the one giving you that opportunity? I bet you would snatch it up!

So what is the difference between the two?

The former opportunity does not give a specified result that will be beneficial to you (money). With the latter, Bill Gates, the opportunity is endless! You will immediately think dollar signs $$$.

But is that all your time is worth? This is middle-class and working-class mentality. You have been taught to work for immediate money. That is an issue. You aren’t getting compensated based on the quality of work.

If you were to work for someone for free that is in the field of your passion or study, you will be learning things that are invaluable but at the same time valuable. Working and getting paid a specific amount is the fabricated fantasy for the middle-class.

Consistent pay checks pacify the average person. Getting paid a specific amount will allow you to be lazy, competent, and satisfied. To hell with being satisfied! Strive for the best!

A lot of people don’t recognize an opportunity unless there is a pay check attached to it. Unfortunately, the best opportunities do not present themselves with money from the beginning. You have to qualify. Anything that you do not need to qualify for isn’t worth it. You went to  school for four years with good grades, that qualified you to graduate, which qualified you to get into the career of your choosing, which qualifies you to get that salary you have been working for, which qualifies you to take care of your family.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

If you are working and getting paid, you are getting the return immediately therefore there will not be much growth, compared to working for free and getting paid millions in the future. Millions in blessing, income, happiness, peace of mind, love, family, abundance, all of that.

Once you start to see opportunities as just that, opportunities, you will be blessed. If you only see opportunity as a quick pay check, you will never succeed to the greatest capability. You will only hold yourself back.

As many of you are graduating this year or are close to graduating, consider the real meaning of “opportunity”. Don’t miss out on a blessing because of the working-class thinking of “sell time, pay now”. Think opportunity, learning, and networking now, freedom and longevity later.

And don’t forget that you can create your own opportunity too. You don’t need an employer “daddy” to give you an opportunity. Stop looking for a daddy (job) and start creating your own.

Start living your life like nobody else will now in order to live your life like nobody else can later.

Until next time,

Live Long and Prosperous.
