“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.” – Hal Borland
How amazing would it be if you could end 2018 not so well financially and wake up in 2019 with a job offer you couldn’t refuse, a great partner, a winning lottery ticket, or all your debts erased?
Unless you have a secret genie, that probably will not be happening.
Otherwise, there are some things that you can do in 2019 to ensure that you end that year differently than this year!
Speak Your Mind And Stick To It
In this day and age of extreme censorship, many of us have lost the will and capability to have a single unique opinion. Being the same as everyone else seems like the normalcy amongst those who are very simplistic and limited in their thought. You will realize in all areas of your life that those who are like clones have a cement ceiling. It takes those who are different and eccentric that make it somewhere. It’s not hard to forget those who are like everyone else, doing the same thing, and having the same thoughts. On the other hand, those who have unique thoughts, take intelligent (and sometimes ballsy) risks, and are willing to speak their minds are the ones who are remembered – the ones who actually make changes in the world and in their own lives.
Start thinking about how you can stick out, not how you can blend in. It will pay off in dividends.
Don’t Settle In One Job
If you are under thirty with no kids, you have absolutely no reason to settle for the job that you are in. If you are in a job to get experience for one thing, get that experience and then go on to the next job. Unless you are under a contract or you have stock options in your company, your only obligation is to your broadened experience and your growing resume. Do not become one of those people who complain to their colleagues about what they hate about their job and their boss but they stick to that job for years. That’s what cowards do.
You have a problem? Get it solved or get out. There will always be more jobs and opportunity for you. You MUST be selfish. No one will help you out more than you help yourself. If your boss can replace you on the same day that you die, do not bust your butt for that job if you hate it. Move on.
Travel The World, Intentionally
Would you be surprised to know that many people in the wealthy land of North America do not even own a passport? Yet they consider themselves educated.
You can watch as many documentaries and vlogs as you want about the world, but if you aren’t stepping on their soil, you don’t know anything! Having an opinion about the world without travelling is like seeing an ocean shore and assuming you know how many grains of sand their are because you see the sand. It is ludicrous.
Travelling is not only extremely exhilarating and addictive, but it will forever change your world view. You will become more inspired than if you stuck to your day to day routine in your home country. You will see architecture differently, food differently, world problems differently, people differently, everything differently.
For this reason, I find the desire to be patriotic synonymous with being ignorant! Prove me otherwise.
Let 2018 be your year of learning and 2019 the year of execution. There is no such thing as a bad year. You had your learnings, your mistakes, but no matter what, you learned something. You will learn things that you cannot learn in a book or in school. The most important knowledge is free but yet so priceless! Take your share of this knowledge and let it transform your world.
Here’s to another successful year in all areas of your lives!
See you on the other side.
Until next time,
Live Long and Prosperous.
